RCY Arts Festival

Our team won the 2nd runner-up in the RCY Arts Festival Video Categoy - quite a relief! Just quite puzzled about the other video entries which did not really reflect what the RCY is doing for humanity as the theme is Action through Humanities. I will need to get Mr Chia to give out the prizes to the team - Yu Ping, Yang Yew, Jia Ying, Qiao Ni, Jian Hui and Ian.
After that I went to Carrefour to purchase the items to be donated to the low income families for our Community Service Day. I must really thank the HS staff for their kind donation and we were able to raise the money to buy the items for 36 bags.

RCY Art Festival Video Award

Our team managed to get into the final for the RCY Video award. Might have to do some touch up as it will be a tough fight among 5 teams for the top 3 position. As mentioned earlier, we need to win in this competition to secure our EUA points. All the best for our cadets in the final on the 29 March.

Combined Unit Archery with Compassvale Secondary

Our RCY unit had the combined unit Archery with Compassvale Secondary. This will definitely help to build up the CCA portfolio for the cadets as well as contributing to our EUA points. We need to sustain the EUA (Excellent Unit Award) Gold - we already had Gold for 2 years and Silver for the 2 years before that. You can click here for more photos:

The RCY Video award results will be out on Monday - I hope that they get into the final and win in this competition. We really need to win in this competition as there is no more banner design or sculpture making competition for the World Red Cross day celebration which we often do very well in.We were the runner up and champions for 2 years. We spent the whole day on Tuesday working on the video. My most sincere thanks to Chin Kheng for staying with us as we had to rush the project without lunch.
We will be the hosting venue for the World Red Cross Day celebration cum enrolment day for the East District. A bit strange as we actually belong to the North District. It seems that HQ was unable to get any school in the East to host the event. We are incorporating the Project Love on the day as well in the afternoon and I must start preparing for the publicity to encourage people to donate certain food and medical items for the elderly.
Of course we hope to do well in the Current affairs competition like last year - we were the champion for North District last year and I can forsee that it would be tougher this year!
As for the First Aid Competition, it will be held quite late this year - 15 Nov 2008. We will just be back from our exchange program to Bangkok and I wonder whether the cadets will be ready for it? I must really prepare them the weeks before.
As for the archery event today - I must say that the cadets are not as enthusiastic as before. I think we have to plan for something else- maybe dragon boating? I must say I am also quite disappointed and upset with my 2 leaders today. I just hope that the Sec 3s who are taking over will not disappoint me. I had spent years watching the unit grow and I must say I am proud that the unit has achieved much as well as the cadets.

Visit to the Parliament House 4 March 2008

Visited the Parliament House with students from 4E1 and 5A1 today. It was quite eye-opening for many of them. I am quite glad that Peishan and some other students would like to visit the Parliament House again. I was quite sick today as I have had diarrhoea for 3 days over the weekend and still suffering from flu for the 4th days . On the way back, I had a severe headache - thank God I did not throw up!
I am sure the students had benefitted much from the visit and will definitely remember this for the rest of their lifes. They saw the key personnel in the cabinet as well as many MPs today and also had the chance to listen to the MPs' reading of the bill on education -the 4th universtity and private education centres.
You might want to check the name of the minister or MP by refering to their seating arrangement:
