JB Dec 2016 Grand Sentosa

JB day 1
Have not visited JB for a long time so we decided to stay four nights. Used to visit JB 3 to 4 times a year.

First time caught in a jam... Almost 2 hrs.
Checked into Grand Sentosa hotel again. Love the location for the many eateries and massage parlor in the area. However the room make up service is getting worse. Everyday, there will be missing items.. towels, toilet paper, tooth brush etc.  The hotel no longer give the pouch with tooth brush, shampoo, bath lotion etc but now only soap and toothbrush... The water flow from the tap was so low.

Went to city square for my favourite wanton mee- love the richness of the lard with the springy home made noodle. However the wanton was not as good.

Next stop at the coffeeshop next to KSL for my favourite goreng pisang and popiah with bean sprouts

The popular bak kut teh opposite KSL - love the sesame chicken and salted vegetable!

Pasar Malam on Monday from KSL to Grand Paragon. The salted chicken was much different from the previous one  which was dried salt baked.

I have always love Malaysia corn which is so much more crunchy and sweeter.

Finally found the yam abacus at the Pasar Malam which was sold out at City square.

 Went for massage at Fizzio

Supper - quail and suckling pig from the restaurant opposite our hotel.

JB day 2
Though the restaurant was shifted to the ground floor of the hotel which is more convenient - the choice of food was still poor.

Engaged the service of Mr Neo 0197729820 for a day trip to Pontian. Will look for him again as he was such a good guide for food.

First stop was the famous Pontian wanton noodle. The coffee and snacks especially the popiah skin was so soft.

As it was still early, we went over to Kukup, the floating village, which I used to bring the students to look at the nucleated settlement pattern as well as the fish farm and mangrove there.

We drove back to Pontian and went to the coast at Jalan Delima - the waves were really plunging.

Famous 100 year-old pastry shop - bought some of the traditional biscuits. They were packing some for a wedding.

Went to the fish market which was already closed for the day and saw many monkeys there. If you go there early, you can purchase the fish and go to the restaurants opposite it for them to cook for you at a fee.

The reason for our trip to Pontian - the salted egg crayfish at Zu Qiu Seafood restaurant. Very cheap seafood and so well cooked! The crayfish was RM80 per kilo.

Watched the beautiful sunset next to the restaurant.

Popular 777 penang Kuah Tiao near my hotel for supper. The oyster esp the one with HY special sauce was good so we got more on Day 3.

JB day 3
Went to Bukit Indah for the A&W

Back to the food court in Sentosa Plaza where our hotel is for more food. The ice in the dessert too chunky for my liking. Hubby love the frog leg herbal mee sua.

Finally got to book my dinner at Ban Heong Seng restaurant. Need to call a day in advance 016 7571887. Did not know the restaurant shifted and had a hard time locating it.

Address changed to 113 Jalan Impian EMAS 22, Taman Impian EMAS 81300 Skudai, Johor

the charcoal bed which the beggar's chicken is baked for 8 hours

the clay which the chicken is wrapped with

Simply love this fish. It looked like a full fish but when you take the slices apart, you will realise that it is stuffed with the meat processed. Simply delicious.

went to get some satay and the oyster with the mentai prawns near my hotel

JB day 4
Decided to get the breakfast at Kin Hua restaurant and the famous banana cake from Hiap Joo opposite it.

Popular Nasi Padang in the restaurant

Love the kampong half boiled egg, the crispy kaya and butter toast as well as the coffee

Nice curry bee hoon

Queued 30 mins for the banana cakes

The Ehhe Art Cafe next to Hiap Joo bakery. A lot of nice art exhibit which they frequently change on level 2. At the time of my visit, the display was on recycled cardboard.

The food was just average at the cafe - ordered chicken rice and nasi goreng with sambal prawns

The display at the Johor Chinese History museum was good - worth a visit.

Love the food at Modern Revelation - chose the sour cabbage soup base and herbal soup base this time round. The pork and beef are really good.

Xmas cocktail

Supper from the luk luk van outside our hotel and the bbq from Kimdo restaurant opposite our hotel
