Orientation workshop for Community Service Day

I taught the Sec 2s how to use the badge making machine today as we planned to sell personalised button badges for charity on International Friendship day this Friday. However to our great disappointment the refills were out of stock for all the Toy Rus branches. I called up Adelline urgently and told her that we have to change it to a game stall.

We went to CHIJ St Theresa's convent for the orientation workshop for our community service day. The students were briefed by Ms Lee Yean Wun, the social worker from Kampong Kapor Family Service Centre. After telling the cadets the profile of the families living in the area, she also briefed them on the following do's and don'ts:

1. Walk in pairs and team,

2. Introduce where you are from and purpose of visit.

3. Check Language. ( most will be dialect speaking - they might understand Mandarin but the cadets must speak slowly)

4. Stay outside the flat until further invitation.

5. Be specific when asking about the task that you can help out in.

6. Be respectful always get permission if need to move or throw things away.

7. Be prepared with things as well as mind and attitude.

8. Be watchful - if you are concern share with your leaders.

9. Know your purpose and your limits.

10. Remain polite.

It is going to be a busy week next week - We need to pack all the food and first aid items into the donation bags on Mon and Tues. I also must issue the consent form and book the bus for the return trip once HQ confirm the pick up point. We will be having our photo taking on Wed - that's why we need to brief the Sec 1 on how to put on the uniform today. The International Friendship day is on Friday and our community service day on Sat with the enrolment ceremony in the morning and the community service in the afternoon.
