JB Holiday Villa June 2022

A bit of jam at the Malaysian custom so it took us 1.5 hours to reach our hotel. Decided to go to JB as there is no need for PCR test if we go to Malaysia by land as we are fully vaccinated.

Dropped our luggage at the hotel and grabbed to Aeon Tebrau City. Wanted to eat at Tang Sifu but it was not opened yet so we ate at Arashi. Great service. Too bad the cheek pork was not available but the pork and beef slice were good.

Checked-in Holiday Villa hotel and the reception asked for the date of second vaccination. Luckily I have captured the image of my vaccination cert from health hub  Chosen the Deluxe room this time round with 2 single beds as it is quite spacious too though we stayed in the suite the last 2 stays with Holiday villa. Gotten the free upgrade from superior as a Gold Villa member.

Went for a swim. A very relaxing time at the infinity pool.

There is a steam room in both the male and female toilets. Very relaxing and hubby loves it

Pasar Malam along the street outside KSL every Mon. It was very crowded and no longer have my favourite corn cob and salt- baked chicken. Only gotten the potato ball at the end with the sugar cane and avocado juice.

The line up of the stalls ended at Grand Paragon. Behind the hotel is Cedar point food court and we were attracted by the fragrance of  char kway teow and satay at Cedar point food court. The char kway teow is really good but not so for the satay is a bit too tough for my liking.

Found my favourite goreng Pisang at LG of KSL! It's crust is so crunchy and the banana is so soft and sweet. So many food stalls now.

Went to SQ massage in KSL. Quite a disappointment as the masseurs are not as skilled though rating is high online.

Late night supper from Lok Lok van near KSL. Love the quail century egg. Have missed it for so long.

Dazzling night view from our room. Wanted to go to skybar but waiter did not allow us to sit near the rail with the view as he said it is reserved for four people only and there are only two of us. That's why we went out to get the Lok Lok. The Lok Lok tasted so good and I have this view so I can only said blessings in disguise. Gratitude.

Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel. First time trying lemang. Soft and nice glutinous with strips of fried chicken floss on top. Fried bee hoon is nice. Did not try the fish porridge, Nasi lemak but look nice too. Breakfast at hotel. There is also prawn noodle soup and fish porridge. I like the cute peanut yellow bun. Just that we must wear glove to pick up the food now.

Contacted Mr Neo, our taxi driver who brought us to Pontian and Kukup in 2016, to bring us to Kulai for a day trip.

We stopped by Gao Deng Corner Coffee Shop as hubby heard about the nice food here. But I find the food average.

The main highlight of the Kulai trip is Putuo village.
https://putuovillage.com.my/

Love the big rocks on the floor

Wishing tree

The passion fruit green tea served in the Fat Bamboo cafe provided a relief from the heat.

竹林小径和秋千、巴厘岛吊床、鸟巢、彩虹步道、花朵隧道、许愿树、七彩彩虹竹墙和竹亭子

Another attraction of Kulai is the mural in the village. Wanted to try the Hakka food but the restaurants are all closed.  Went over to 古来火蒸鸡 Kulai and it was closed too as the Mon before they were opened due to the public holiday in Malaysia.

Visited the nearby 古来花果山 Hua Guo Shan Temple which is full of monkeys and turtles.

My favourite sesame chicken, salted veg and bak kut teh at Taman Sentosa Soon Huat Bak Kut  Teh. Long queue

Went back to the hotel to refresh ourselves. Grab to Pasar Karat. Thought they have the snacks like pasar Malam but only clothings and bags.

Took a walk along the canal. Quite nice deco

Back to Yit Foh Noodle House near our hotel. Love it's wanton mee so much❤️ highly recommended

Could not forget the goreng Pisang and went back to KSL LG glutton street to get more. Found the banana balls which hubby like in the same stall. Went to the restaurant opposite my hotel to get coffee and found Ramly burger. Gotten the special which has egg and it's only RM5! Bun is soft and it's so nice. What a feast!

Day 3

Today's breakfast special is chicken porridge, fried noodle, pink bun and grilled cheese tomato. The pink bun is with red bean paste. The other spread is pretty the same with lemang, bread, yogurt, milk with cereals, sausage, chicken curry, beef ham and salad. Egg station as well as prawn soup noodle station.

Look for the awesome fried 年糕 by my friend Ference at Qing Feng Huat. Crunchy crust and the 年糕 is so soft and nice.  Ference said we should try the fried durian in our next visit. Hubby found the blood curd soup which is no longer available in Singapore. The soup is good as it is sweet and fresh. Prawn mee is nice but too spicy for us.😅 Forgot that Penang version is spicy.

Grabbed to Mount Austin for more food. First stop at the 2D cafe. The name is 6D Cafe though. The Takoyaki is so nice ❤️Love the first love drink too! Hubby ❤️  the vanilla crepe cake and English tea.

Next stop to tabao my favourite Peking duck at Eastern Dragon Restaurant. The oil that oozes from every bite of the crepe with the slices of the roasted duck skin, sauce, cucumber and spring onion strips. Went over to their location at Austin height as the one adjacent to the hotel was closed and relocated. Missed their foie gras which was no longer in the menu.

Grabbed back to the hotel and enjoyed a swim in the infinity pool. We had the whole pool to ourselves and the view from the pool is still so amazing.

Massage at JTC

Visited chez papa as we missed it's foie gras so much. Waited almost 3 years and finally visited chez papa again. I love the bread which is warm and soft with crispy crust. Also ordered the escargot and fresh oyster. Yes it's very fresh!

Love my Irish coffee

Heavy rain with raindrops on my window. The view from the window with the reflection looked so mystical.

Day 4
Lovely sunrise

Today's breakfast special is roti canai, lontong, fried kway teow, masak ayam merah, plain prorridge and two types of buns -yellow peanut and pink red bean. The roti canai curry is very nice. Kway teow pales against the noodles and bee hoon. The plain porridge a bit cold and lacking in condiments as only salted veg, spring onion and fried shallots available. Lontong veg is nice too though I didn't take the rice.

Took some photos at a nearby convenient store.

Grabbed over to shop at Plaza Sentosa and hubby took some local dishes in a small restaurant. I love the BIG meat bun and coffee

Grabbed to Legoland. Have yet been there though we had gone to JB quite frequently. Wanted to see the new aquarium. Was so shocked it's so crowded and could not get in. Forgot it's Malaysia school holiday this week as well.

Decided to go to Pendas Floating restaurant which is at a small fishing village. You pick the fresh seafood and they will cook for you. Their star is Assam fish and I also ordered kangkong and fried sotong. All very nice as the seafood are so fresh.
A lot of fishing boats. Even the restaurant has its own!

Beautiful mangrove along the coast

Went to Beletime Danga bay and went to chill at the beach at Danga Bay. Walked past some decos from Belletime.

It suddenly poured and  crazy me and hubby eating ABC shaved ice under the umbrella. And they forgot my chicken wings😅. The rain stopped in less than 10 mins. The drumlets are very well marinated and  crispy... Though I ordered wings.

Lovely place to chill.

Packed the cinnamon roll and latte from space bar in the hotel. Very nice cinnamon roll with a crisp.

At Tang Sifu in KSL. Hubby sesame oil ginger wine mee sua not as good now.  He said chicken more tough and no longer the yellow wine soup he had. Sad that standard dropped. My mee sua with dried scallop and abalone slices is ok. The flower tea is ok but not as presentable as before. Beancurd and bird nest for dessert. Chef cooking for me again as suddenly there was a small insect which crawled out of my broccoli. Faint..... Shock of my life.
Doubt we will be back again. However must say the beancurd is nice with the caramel. Hubby said bird nest dessert was diluted though.

Foot massage in KSL. The Javanese massage centre has converted to Thai massage. What a relief as my legs were aching from all the walking. Nice ambience.

Love the place so much that I have extended another night stay.

Day 5
Beautiful sunrise. The sun is so bright.

Today's mantou with curry is very nice. Other special of the day are fried bee hoon, butter bread pudding, green bun with Kaya. The rest are the same masak merah ayam, prawn noodle station, egg station, chicken ham, sausage, plain prorridge with diced salted egg, salad, bread. The mantou and curry is so nice I took a second helping with fruit platter. It's very crowded today compared to the past few days.

Last swim in the pool. One of the reasons for the extension. Really love the pool. There are some guests here today.

Having our lunch at Sing Li coffeeshop next to KSL. The Kaya and butter toast is so good! The mee hoon Kueh is equally good. Hubby's ban mian with bitter gourd is awesome according to him. As we are seated near the char kway teow. Could not  not resist the temptation of the fragrance from the char kway teow and ordered. 😅

Shopping at southkey popular and Daiso. Surprised that the Daiso here still selling at RM 5.90
Mr Dollar has plenty of cheap stuff. Regretted buying the hairband at Daiso cos here is only RM2

Decided to get a drink at Fridays.

Back to JTC for our last massage in JB. Energize before work starts again!
RM60 for 1hr body massage and RM40 for 1 hr foot massage

Appreciate this convenient store in the hotel. Managed to get 3in1 Milo satchets as hubby suddenly want Milo. Bought some chips and nuts too. Saw Yoko and bought for my aching legs. A lot of instant noodle even instant Chinese sasuage rice available.  Gratitude

Curry Fish head, fried sea mantis, steamed prawns and sambal tapiaco leaves at Sure win claypot seafood porridge opposite KSL. Love the fried sea mantis and curry fish!

Bought a durian black gold Mustang king at the stall outside KSL. Nice. Seeds really small. Bitter sweet creamy. RM105

Missed the fried banana balls and was disappointed that it was sold out again. Hubby really has his charm. The macik cooked again for him. Bought the coffee and sea coconut drink from the stall next to it  at glutton food street in KSL. That's why I love staying in this area. So much food ❤️

Last night here.

Gratitude for being able to travel again.

Gratitude for the awesome hotel and pool.

Gratitude for the great food here.

Gratitude for the friends we made here.

Gratitude.

Day 6

Morning sun missing in action.

Today's mantou is cold unlike yesterday's warm and crisp. Fried noodle today. Same for others prawn noodle and egg station, fish porridge, pink red bean bun, curry chicken, hash brown, ham, sausage, Nasi lemak. Rock melon and watermelon today. Overall food not as good as past few day"s.

Another hotel by Novotel under construction. Another option in future?

Grab over to Jalan Hiok Nee, old Chinese street. Bought some cream roll and banana cake from Salahuddin Bakery. Glad to meet the 3rd generation  owner of this bakery which is 85 year old! Bought the yam cake from Ah Ma Teochew Kueh. Also visited Jalan Hiok Nee famous red House which is now occupied by Marybrown. The area cordoned off for a cycling event.

Stopped to eat Roti  canai from  Muthu restaurant. The taste is average but can't believe the price. Roti canai plain is only RM1.20, with egg RM2.30  and coffee only RM1.70.

Took some photos in the convenient shop in our hotel.

Decided to eat at Yit Foh again as it will be sometime before we are back again.

Love the dim sum at Cha Lao Dim Sum in the hotel. Highly recommended though they only open from 9am to 3pm. Love their fried carrot cake, char siew bun, egg tarts and har Kar. Love the ambience too. Drank the Jasmine tea while waiting for the trolley cart typical of a Cantonese tea house to bring the food items for you to select. Glad to have this before we go back to Singapore.

Some photos before leaving the hotel. Saw that you can rent a power bank too. But I think it's much cheaper to buy one at KSL and you can keep it. Phone consume a lot of battery nowadays.

No jam at all back to Singapore though we saw the long Jam on the Woodland causeway to JB.

Heated up the yam cake from Ah ma Teochew Kueh and the curry puff from Salahuddin Bakery. Melted my heart. And my favourite cream cone from Salahuddin Bakery. Will definitely buy if I go to JB again.
