Malacca Sept 2023

Day 1

Brought my mum to Malacca where my maternal grandma was born. Stayed at Hotel Puri, a hotel which is a heritage gem.

We left our house around 7 and reached the hotel 12 plus. Trapped at the Tuas causeway for an hour. Considered lucky as the day before some were caught in a 9 hr jam.

As it was too early to check in, we took a grab car to Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall. We had a good 1 hour foot and shoulder massage at RM59 plus RM20 for the ginger foot soak and ginger oil.

Delicious meal at iDragon in the mall. Awesome sweet and sour fish. Love the fried rice too. Hubby was so delighted he found mo po tofu which he just saw on a show and had craving for it. He likes the drunken chicken appetiser too though mum loves the peanut more.

Finally checked into the hotel. We had two connecting superior rooms. My husband helped my mum did the marking on her body wash and shampoo as she can't read the labels.

He also taught her how to control the water temperature in the bathroom.

Our room.

Glad there is a nice sized fridge and big safe box.

The room windows open out to the garden so we decided to keep it closed.

Explored the hotel. Many antiques and nicely decorated corners.

There is a history room in the hotel.

The mansion opposite our hotel is equally historical. It is a Chee Ancestral Mansion, a building within the UNESCO world heritage site in Malacca.

The Jonker walk pasar malam is only opened on weekends.

As the road is closed for the pasar malam, we had to walk to the Tamil Methodist Church which is grab's pick up point. Realised that this also the ending point of the pasar malam.

Saw a pretty kitten walking towards me.

Bought some fruits from near Hatten hotel. Went to a pharmacy near to Hatten hotel to get some medicine.

Jonker street is so crowded. Luckily the grab driver sent me to the the place where the pasar malam starts (main entrance) near the river so that I don't need to u-turn back to the Tamil Methodist Church where the pasar malam ends. That was the only pick up point for the grab drivers and nearer to our hotel too. There are stalls selling non-food items too.

Jonker street pasar malam is so crowded. Nothing outstanding though. I like the quail eggs skewer though.

Day 2

Breakfast at the garden. Mum loved the nasi lemak, chicken wings, the kueh and even the coffee.

Took some photos in the hotel.

There are some koi fishes in the one next to the lift.

The Sunday flea market selling a lot of antique.

A traditional provision shop on our way to the temple.

A Buddhist temple .

A monk outside the temple gave us this colourful bracelet which my mum liked a lot.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple

A very unique mosque next to the temple.

Took a grab car over to Aeon Bandaraya and took some light snacks.

Hubby bought 2 pair of shoes from a sports shoe shop and I bought one from camel active.

Lunch at Super Tang in the Aeon Bandaraya mall. My hubby's and mum's mee sua in soup and Chinese wine are good. Mum loves it. I ordered the dry one with abalone and broccoli. The serving is a bit slow. The staff is nice to introduce us 1 for 1 bird nest.

The dry version not as good as some of the noodles are glued together. The one at Aeon JB is better.

My mum liked her bird nest in rock sugar and pandan soup .

Bought chicken rice balls from one of the stalls, my mum said the one at Changi village nicer 😅 hubby like the stinky tofu but mum said it's more smelly than the one at KSL so she didn't taken. Bought luo Han guo cooling tea for her too. The heat is scorching outside. She asked us to go out while she stays indoor.

The heritage park at Jonker street.

The Rotiboy from Aeon Mall is so good

Had a good 2 hr massage RM145 for 2 hr per pax.

Jonker Street night market opened. But going to take a grab car to pahlawan night market to see it is better.

Took a grab car over to Pahlawan walk night market.

Nitrogen smoke cereals.

Love the goreng Pisang and cempedek!

Bought the lamb satay, goreng Pisang and cempedek at Pahlawan walk night market. Delicious! So yummy I ordered more ketuput as well. The meat is so tender and fresh. Best satay ever.

Had dinner at Salud near our hotel. Hubby had been missing the food since our last stay here. Love my chipirones which is grilled squid with mashed potato and caramised onion. Delicious with my Margarita. Hubby having Spanish lamb ribs. He loves his lamb ribs with sangria. Totally Spanish and delicious.

Day 3

Breakfast at the garden again. Fried rice is yummy. Sunny side up from the live station. Spread is smaller as there are fewer guests today. No more Kueh today as well.

We took a grab car  to Malaysia Heritage Studio.

House of Perlis

House of Penang

House of Perlis

House of Selangor

House of Malacca

Too bad it started raining heavily so I just took a look from outside the rest of the houses. Also missed exploring the maze which has very interesting sculptures. Hubby also decided not to wait for the performance at 12pm.

Took a grab car to Aeon Melaka Shopping centre and mum wanted noodle so bought I bought for her Yong tau foo. Surprisingly she said it is good though it is very different from Singapore with watery sweet sauce. Hubby took the soup version and said it is good. Part of the mall is still under renovation.

After we took a grab back to the hotel, I recalled that there is a famous Putu Piring nearby. Took a grab car there as it is closing soon at 3.30pm. Long queue and realised there is grab delivery.

We took a grab car to Madam King department store for the famous Bunga Raya Popiah outside the store. My mum loved it with the crispy lard but not hubby.

At capitol seafood longgkong siham.
Awesome grilled cuttlefish. Love the prawns, cockles, Kang Kong cuttlefish too! Hubby love the raw oysters as well.

l pool

Beautiful view of Casa Del Rio from the river cruise jetty.

A group of tourists photo bombed us. They told us they are from Oman.

Walked along the river.

St Francis Xavier Church looked like it is leaning.

Decided to have some snacks and cocktails (Geographer's delight and Blue lagoon), Vegan salad and pumpkin soup at Geographer cafe. Very good cocktails and food.

Day 4

Breakfast in hotel today is spicy kway teow which we did not like so we took mum to nearby Siang Ann Kopitiam for breakfast
The Rendang chicken nasi lemak is very lemak (tasty). Mum like the kopic C kosong as well. The Kaya in the bread is so fragrant.
It seemed that it is a BBQ house at night.. Zhi BBQ house. The deco in the coffeeshop is nice.

Original plan was to visit the fruit farm and zoo but the weather didn't favour outdoor activities. Decided to go the magic art 3D museum instead.

Google map says Magic art  3D museum is opened at 10 am but it's actually 11am. So I WhatsApp and they told me I can go to the hotel's coffee house for a drink. Gave my mum my spare phone to watch Netflix but she got bored a while.

At the Magic 3D art museum. We had the whole museum to ourselves.

Going to the river cruise jetty. Passed by Maritime museum

Mum was hesitant to take the river cruise but grew to like it. River cruise RM 30 each and the Photo set at RM80.

Managed to get the last order for food (2pm) today at Peranakan mansion today. Mum loved the food so much, esp Assam fish. Ordered chap chye, choncalok omelet, pie tee. The blue pea drink is so special with blue pea, pandan and brown rock sugar. Pie tee has crispy lard bits and are so crispy!
Must delicious chendol too.

Visited the Tuesday Kampong Lapan night market.Bought some food to share with my mum.  Oh my goodness the cakoi (mini 油条) is so delicious. The fried carrot cake and apom are so amazingly delicious too.. The grilled ikan paste is like otah. The bamboo cake is simi6to the Putu Piring. The satay is not as soft as yesterday but the fat is so delicious!

The satay at Pahlawan walk is better.

Also prefers JB night market corn.

The apom is very crispy and nice.

The fruits here looked so much fresher and cheaper.

Ikan Ganu Kite is like otah with the fish paste wrapped in banana leaves.

My mum loves the fried carrot cake though hubby prefer JB version with bean sprouts.

The blouse is half the price of town's.

Bamboo cake. Like Putu Piring.

Love this cakui. It's like our youtiao mini sized.

Taking late dinner at Sumiko near my hotel. Same boss as Salud. My drink Kannjyuku Umesyu and hubby's Soju and sake. Love the apertizer which is seasoned baby squid and gotten another serving. The chicken wing not so fresh. Wagyu average as hubby said it is juicy but a bit salty. He still prefer the one at JB.

Day 5

The noodle is so good mum wanted more. We took the sunny side up and pancake as well. Mum loves the cherry tomatoes too

Brought my mum to the history room. Raining so decided not to go out. Will wait for transport back to Singapore.

Mum so happy we made a detour to Muar to meet my mum's brother for lunch. She was so excited to meet him. Met my cousin and his son too.
Lunch at Siang Lin in Muar. Love their otah. Mum favourite petai with prawns and Assam fish head.

Visited anothers cousin's temple.
