Strength and hope

I would like to share with you the photos which I took on Mon and today.

Strength - look at how the birds build their nests behind the speakers in the school! The strong will to thrive in an urban jungle.

Hope -Rainbow after the rain today. A better tomorrow?

Project work and Common Test

I will be quite busy with the project works for Sec 3 and Sec 1 - 25% of their SA1.
The first group for the Sec 3 has to present their project which is to present a lesson on Singapore healthcare system in 2 weeks' time. I will have to vet their work next week.This will be followed by the British healthcare system in 9th week and the reasons for the conflict in Sri Lanka in the 10th week. There will be 3 more group presentations in the first 3 weeks of next term. Common test 1 is also on for the next 2 weeks.... stress...stress.. stress...

As for the Sec 1, they would also have to work on it soon. They would have to draw a map (with scale and legend) and do a powepoint presentation as well on their selected neighbourhood. I have advised them to look at the streetmap available online for reference:

Service Learning with 3N2

It was really not an appropriate day to go for service learning at the centre today. It seemed that there was a performance earlier on and the MP was an invited guest. The room which the physiotherapist used to brief the students was packed with the catered food and some of the staff were busy clearing it. He was not able to show us the exercise machines which the elderly used. It must be a busy day for the staff and I think we have really chosen the wrong day to do our CIP. We had to cut short the time as the senior citizens have to go back early. I think 3N2 is also not adequately prepared either though some did try to interact with the elderly.

Joy

As mentioned in my earlier entry, I was so happy for my CH(Geog) class as all of them pass CH(Geog) and many got distinctions. This morning I saw the news that Samuel also got a distinction for his humanities. I am really happy for him that he was able to achieve so much though he was disadvantaged. I hope that all my students put their will into achieving their best and I must say he really made me feel proud by making the big jump from a B4 to a A1! source: Lian He Zaobao 14 Jan 2009

Believe

I believe in you just like you believe in me.

I sincerely believe that in the heart of every child, there is the goodness and gem waiting to be unravelled.

I must say that I am quite challenged by a group of students who seemed so uninterested in their work. But like what I had said, I believe that they could if they would put their heart in it. If you believe you can, you can.

One of the boys apologised to me at the bus stop and I was pretty touched - I could see that he knew that I care and I believe in him...I would also like to believe that he is sincerely apologetic and would put his heart into his work... I believe that a small change is a big step for him and me...
