Chinatown Dec 2022

Had my favourite chicken rice from Heng Ji @ Chinatown complex. A Hong Kong tourist saw us eating and asked us where the stall is. I missed the chicken rice so much I took two bowls. You need to drizzle the soy sauce and oil from the chicken  over the rice. The chicken is so tender!

Used to bring students here for Geographical investigation on tourism. Happy to see that the tourists are back in Chinatown and many stalls are opened. Sad that the food street is gone at Smith street. The balcony which reminded how pre-war theatre performers used to get attention of by passers to go to the opera theatre.

The stalls on the ground floor at the Chinatown complex are selling Chinese New Year goods now. The basement is the wet market which was closed by noon. The food stalls are on the second floor and is so crowded.

A great way for the seniors in the area to get together for a game of chess one of my favourite stalls selling Kueh is no longer available near the Chinatown complex.

One of the attractions in the area. The Buddha tooth relic temple.

A learning journey of Buddhism. Learned this info from a former LJ: the  Buddha sculptures featured big eyes in early days as the sculptors were from Europe. It slowly evolved to those with smaller eyes from Asian sculptors.
Met some tourists on level 3. Too bad level 2 is closed for renovations as I wanted to see the display of heritage items from Chinatown area here. Level 3 and 4 are display of the Buddha sculptures.

Love the orchid garden on the roof top with the prayer wheel.
