Hong Kong 19 to 23 Dec 2013

Hong Kong Day 1:

Took Turbo Jet from Macau to Hong Kong. Snacks again!

Checked into Metropark Hotel Causeway Bay - nice view from the hotel roof top. though my room is upgraded to harbour view. The view is not good as it is only on the 16th floor.

We had lunch at 华姐牛肉腩beside大利near tin hau mtr station. Both are popular with locals and we have to share table.

Street food at wan chai.. love the 鸡蛋仔 so crispy. However I still don't like their fish ball which I found it to starchy.. I still prefer ours. The cuttlefish is average.. at least it is soft to the bite and too chewy.

Highly recommend this dimdimsum restaurant at Wan Chai. Love the 猪仔流沙包look so cute and taste so good too. The claypot rice 腊味饭 is so fragant. The crispy 肠粉 is so unique. I don't normally eat brinjal but this one is good. 波罗包is nice.. crispy flakes of butter.  Excellent.

At 许留山mongkok now, love their mango sets.. mango and the XO sauce carrot cake!

More street food at mongkok .. stinky tofu, fried intestine and other fried items.. didn't quite like it though.. the oil smells funny

The buffet dinner in the hotel is so good ..wished I had more than one stomach! The suckling pig is so crispy and yet so soft inside.. so much more superior than the one I had in Bangkok. The grilled lamb is so tender with charcoal aroma. Spoilt for choice for desserts and the ice cream is so nice. Love the baked rice with prawns.. love the foie gras.. love the coffee.. love everything!

Shopping spree at Ladies Street 女人街

Hong Kong Day 2:

Food spree from 上环to中坏. Starting with smooth porridge from 生记 to the 胜香园for the crispy bun, Silk milk tea from 兰芳园, Egg tart from 泰昌 and Mak's wanton mee.

At Murray house, Stanley and ordered the pork knuckles with wheat beer in the German restaurant on the third floor... nice..had ice cream from the van earlier. The strawberry are so big.

Still at Murray house... went down one level and saw this vietnamese restaurant and could not resist the temptatioon of going for the Vietnamese coffee. The brandy coffee is so nice and the prawn crackers so crunchy that it produced a sizzling sound when dipped in the sauce. The meat an prawn rice roll is so nice with their sauce. Yummy!

Went to Victoria Peak.. wanted to eat there but was too crowded!  Went up to the viewing gallery to take some photos - I can't even squeeze through the crowd. The Galleria which is the next building is so much more quiet and we captured nice photos of the sun set. We also went to Madame Tussauds to take some photos and I must say the price in too high - I prefer the wax museum at Pattaya together with the Ripley's believe it or not which is about one quarter of the price I paid in HK!

Visited the Madame Trussade - so expensive compared to Pattaya.

The crowd at the peak gallery was horrendous. Luckily there is a photographer. We paid a hefty price but it was worth the memory captured.

Dinner at 一楼煱. So many restaurants nearby the hotel.. spoilt for choice except some are fully booked.

Hong Kong Day 3

Took the MTR to Central and took the ferry from central pier 4. The ferry  was super fast and we reached Lamma island in less than 25 mins. We had lunch in a seafood restaurant - quite expensive - HK450 for a fish and I still prefer the ones I had in Pattaya.

Love the salted pepper

Found an old lady selling some local snacks on the way up to the beach. Hubby loves these local delights.

阿婆豆腐

Beautiful bay and tea near the beach at Lamma island.

Sunset is rather early here.. love the serenity.. wanted to go to the other pier but didn't realised you have to cross over a hill which is an hour hike..

There is even a prawn fishing area with bbq nearby the bay.

Took the chicken wing which is charcoal grilled on the way back to the pier.. nice!

Some shopping along the way - cheap bracelet.

At Marco's oyster bar and grill near Jordon MTR .. average steak but nice dessert.. better off for tea.

At Mido Café in temple street. Love the fried noodle Mido style and Red bean ice!

Hubby eating his 蛇羹 五蛇蛤蚧

Time passed so fast... two more days in HK.. taking this picture at my hotel.

Hong Kong Day 4

Dim sum at Star seafood restaurant in Shau Kei Wan... super nice chestnut cake, carrot cake, shrimp dumpling and golden sand bun... the yam cake and shrimp roll are average. This was recommended by a local when we checked with him another restaurant which we had the dim sum 3 years ago and learned that it was closed.

At 将军澳so many schools around the station, the bench is so cold that its like ice pack applied to my aching legs... so nice and quiet that I don't want to leave.

Took picture at TVB at 军澳..Saw 崔健波but he doesn't want to take a picture as he has no make up on.

Beautiful sunset at Causeway Bay Typhoon shelter... awaiting my dinner at 信记 on a boat. 铜锣湾避风塘was one of the early typhoon shelter untill the government resettled the boat people.. 信记 only managed to get the license to operate here recently.. this is the place where the famous 避风塘炒蟹originated from. A tradition which they are trying to preserve ... eating on a sampan. Victoria park and here flooded with maids..their off day... they can really entertain themselves dancing, playing violin and even cooking with their potable cooker here.

Our sampan picked us up from the pier and the boat under Sum kee (信记) is actually parked quite nearby. First two dishes served.. boiled intestines and kailan.. the people in the yatch are so kind.. they used a oar to pass a cup of coffee to the owner of the restaurant. The boiled prawns are so fresh. The best will be the 重头菜...baby abalone, la la and the famous typhoon shelter crab. Smell and taste so nice.. yummy! Last 2 dishes 艇仔粥和烧鸭河粉. 河粉很细,汤很鲜甜。

We went to the Expo at Victoria park after that - so many stalls and got to taste more local snacks. Even their other locals are so much cheaper and hubby but a pair of boots originally priced at HK599 at 150 here! So lucky to be able to visit their expo which I have seen in TVB shows.

Hong Kong Day 5

Took the train to Tsim Sha Tsui to look at the 重慶 大廈. Saw the queue at Jenny bakery was at least a few hundreds... resorted to black market at the building next to Mirador - HK110 instead of HK65 for the small tin.. It seemed that they got people to queue and profit from it. The biscuits are still buttery with a soft crunch.

陆羽茶室was so fully booked. They are so kind to allow us to take a reserved table for an hour.. so many walk in turned away.. Saw Alan Tham's reserved table!

Superb roasted goose and suckling pig are worth dying for at 鏞记。the century eggs and 罗汉斋are so nice. Opted for the VIP room which you have to pay 10% more as the queue was long -you have to get a queue no.

Must really applaud the police officers here.. they are all over the place and really helped the tourists in guiding them around the place!

The rustic po lo bun taste very good in this uniquely decorated Starbucks cafe near the famous kerosene lamps.

Took the MTR back to Tin Hau and went for tea @ 龙凤冰室opened by 林孑善

So many popular restaurants here - Another famous restaurant for bbq and dessert... too full to try. The bucket 豆花 is available here.

True wanton mee... remember my disappointment over the noodle at Mak central.. the one here at Tin hau is nicer . The porridge here is good too.

At the lounge drinking the apple and tomato juice which are complimentary from the hotel.. you can choose wine or chilled drinks.. awaiting for the taxi to bring us to the airport... bye Hong Kong...

The sun in Hong Kong really set down early.
