2025 BangkokThailand

Checked in to Shangri-La Krungthep wing as we stayed at the Shangrila wing in 2013.

Nice room overlooking the Chao Phraya river. Conveniently located next to the Sathorn pier and Saphan Taksin BTS. A different vibe from Movenpick in Khao Yai surrounded by the mountain and Resort de Paskni beachfront with pool access.

Asked for 2 beds cos I will not disturb hubby's sleep. I like pull the blanket to myself.

All the mini bar is complimentary.  A pack of m&m, pringles chips, one can of coke, one can of zero coke, one cam of sprite and two cans of beer.

I like the spacious toilet but dont like that the toilet bowl is low. Weird that they have a urinal next to the toilet bowl. I think thats not necessary for a hotel room.

Grabbed to Chatuchak weekend market. Bought some preserved mango and a fresh lavender diffuser. Hubby bought a hat. Bought fish balls as we were waiting for our grab.

Grabbed to MBK and had a late lunch at Shudaxia.

You get to mix the sauce yourself. The guava, honey dew and peeled mandarin oranges was nice.

Fish slices

Chose two types of soup. Herbal soup and pork collagen soup. Love the pork collagen soup more.

Waygu beef

Quail eggs and duck blood curd

Fried rice was yummy and so is the mango smoothies.

Seafood set with large prawns and two types of crabs.

Chinese vegetable set

The feast.

They gave us potato salad.

Pork liver. Regretted ordering as we could not finish though the presentation is good.

They gave aprons so that you will not dirty your clothes.

The place deco is so awesome.

The staff was so nice to do up my hair and take photos for us in costume.

Took a tuk tuk back to the hotel.

Went for a body and foot massage near the hotel. The cost is much lower compared to Let's Relax. Hubby like this type of Asian blend so will probably visit again.

Back at the hotel.

Will be going for the dinner cruise tomorrow.

The pool seems small.

Just saw this chocolate from the hotel. Strange that they did not include a card which is why I did not see it earlier.

Beautiful night viewed from the room.

Day 2

Had to go to the other wing for breakfast. The hotel's breakfast spread is a real luxury in the morning. Had my comfort food porridge and dosa as well as vermicelli in clear soup. Took the crispy egg roll which is so good. Endless spread and to my delight my favourite fruits mango and mangosteen.

Love that there is mangosteen for breakfast.

Lovely view by the river for breakfast.

Grabbed to Chinatown to buy a hat but landed up buying 3 as I left my hat in the taxi yesterday. Chinatown is a wild magnet for the ladies. Can't help but buy more handmade necklaces.

Took a tuk tuk back to our hotel.

Awaiting for our boat ride to Iconsiam. It seemed that there are chartered boats from this pier too.

There is a Boon Tong Kee in iconsiam.

A floating market food court.

Hubby ordered fried rice and chicken wing. Not very nice.

I like the watermelon.

The toilet decor is so unique.

Ordered the live grouper steamed from Hua Seng Hong. Nice.

The claypot coffee is the best we tasted for this trip.

Another Singapore brand Jumbo Seafood.

The pier also has guests coming from the public ferry.

Glad that our hotel provided both the boat ride to iconsiam and back to the hotel.

My favourite the hydro jet which provided such a good massage. Great view and a good pool to swim too.

Awaiting our cruise dinner.

A good dinner and cruise on the Chao Phraya river. Love the fried noodle, fried green peas, and the coconut local dessert so much I took 3. Crabs was sweet and the sashimi was fresh. The crab legs were pretty tasteless.

So yummy! I went back to the table to get 2 more.

Grabbed to train night market. Hubby managed to get some pants and shirts. I managed to get my fried banana.

Day 3

Took my comfort food porridge. Love both the chicken and pork floss. Thr chicken wing is so nice. The waffle pales again the DIY Resort de Pakisni. Average scrambled egg. The white chocolate ice cream a bit too sweet. The vanilla ice cream is delicious. The mini doughsticks is not as good as Pakasni. The latte is better though. Too full to try all. Too much a spread.

The fresh pineapple and watermelon juice are so good.

The hotel location is great. With the Saphan Taksin BT station and Sathorn Pier just next to it. However hubby preferred to grab.

Awaiting our Grab transport. A bit long today as I think traffic is heavy. The hotel also celebrate the Queen's birthday. It is her birthday month.

At Erawan Museum

Ancient city. Highlight was the Pavillian of the Enlightened. They called a tuk tuk to send us to join the tram as the tour by the tram has already started at 11am.  The admission ticket with the tram ride is 800 baht per person. Would be good to use the club car if hubby knows how to drive. Cycling is not bad too but I cannot cycle 😅 The staff pointed to us the 5 stops.

So happy I managed to get my favourite type of hat at only 150baht!

At the Semuru mountain.

The highlight of the ancient city is the Pavillian of the Enlightened.

The food here is the worst we have tasted in this trip. The noodle is so bland.

The weather is pretty hot so we decided not to stay and see the other attractions.

Simply love the strong back massage on the hydrojet pool after a swim. Today's weather is perfect for a swim. I can hear the birds chirping here

Their public boat transport had upgraded. It is now air-conditioned. Saw a bank which is in a truck and some school students. The girls look so pretty in their uniform. Going to Marine department pier which is only 3 stops away from the Sathorn pier next to the hotel.

Many civil servants boarding the ferry at Marine department pier.

Walked to Talot Noi street art nearby.

Took a 10 minutes walk to Chinatown from Talot Noi.

Went to Chinatown Scala restaurant. Think it was better when we came here in 2013. The suckling pig and sharking soup were much better then
However service is good. The bird nest is nice too.
But will not recommend cos its not very nice overall and very expensive at more than 9000 baht. Could get better ones in JB.

This is where the suckling pig was grilled

Bought their durian to try but not as good as the one I had at Iconsiam.

The foot massage is only 250 baht for an hour at Fon massage in Chinatown. Very good massage!

Took a tuk tuk back to the hotel at 300 baht.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel.

Grabbed to Pratunam market

Crossed over to Indra square. The caramel Macchiato is very strong and good at Amazon cafe.

Took a tuk tuk to Siam Paragon.  Almost got scammed by the driver who said we need to buy the tickets from a tour agent outside. Luckily I insisted no.  Then he said he wanted to bring to a shop for coupon. Learned my lesson and told him no. Paid him 400 baht.

The staff in Siam Paragon is so nice to tell me there is a buy one get one free promotion. Paid 1179 for admission and 350 per pax for the glass bottom boat ride. And to think the tour agent wanted to charge me 2800 baht saying that thst is a discounted rate.

Took a glass bottom boat ride. Hubby feels that its not worth the time as he said he can't see anything from the glass opening. Better to just visit the Aquarium which is amazing in its display.

Took a tuk tuk to Terminal 21 at 300 baht.

The Wagyu ribeye is very good and flavourful. So is the fish and chips at Arnos in Terminal 21

Grabbed back to the hotel and then went for a.body massage at Tian's clinic. Felt that the Fon massage at Chinatown was better.

Walked.around the area and wanted to eat at the food court but some items were sold out.

Decided to have dinner at the hotel's Chinese restaurant Shang palace. Not as good as I thought it will be. Ordered Peking duck and fried rice. Too full so we packed the fried rice and 2nd course back to the room. Not sure whether it is the oil they use. Put me off and just took a bite.

Day 5
Last breakfast at the hotel. Took the toast and porridge. No appetite at all today. Could be that i ate too much yesterday.

Bye Shangri-la

Took a few photos at the nearby Asiatique. A ghost town in the morning

Went to the Safari World. Hubby loves feeding the animal.

Awesome pandan waffle and Caramel Macchiato! The ham and cheese is good too as its very butterly and fluffy. No wonder Swan cafe has a 5 star rating.

Upgraded to Business class so that hubby has access to the lounge to rest before boarding time which is 2 hours away. Pleasant surprise that business class has access to fast track too so its a breeze through immigration. The Siam bliss drink is very nice at the lounge. Wow the vegetable spring roll is so crispy and the coconut dessert is so yummy! The tom yum soup is nice but a bit too spicy. The vegetable pales as it is cold.

Wow the chwee kueh is so soft and so nice with the caipoh. The young coconut is a hot favourite drink.

Love the spacious seater and wide screen.

The Chilean seabass with whipped potato, corn and carrrot is nice. Hubby said his gang garee again  Northern Thai dry yellow curry chicken with rice is good too. Appetiser prawn Caesar salad and dessert Raspberry Bavarois. The steward is awesome!
